Island Hopping in Belize with Raggamuffin Tours
"Lose the shoes guys, you'll get em back at the end"
huh? we are leaving for 3 days what do you mean you are taking my shoes??
"Welcome to island life baby, this is Raggamuffin"
For three whole days I had no shoes, no shirt and no problems.
Belize Belize Belize, you are WONDERFUL.
MARRY ME BELIZE
#CRUSIN
Setting sail for 3 days down the coast of Belize with Raggamuffin tours for a snorkeling adventure has been one of my most favorite travel experiences to date! Our days were filled with snorkeling, fishing, sun bathing, music, sunsets, private islands, remote beaches, delicious food and most of all.. RUM PUNCH
The crew was AWESOME. They were funny and knowledgable. It was them who truly made the experience wonderful.
Introducing..
Captain Jacob
This guy knew everything there was to know about the ocean, the sea life, snorkeling, the islands, you name it.. Jacob knew it.
SHAQ This guy had quite the personality on him. He was so lovely, friendly and downright hilarious. His favorite thing to do was shout "RUUUUUMM PUUUNCHH, WHO WANTS SOME RUUMMM PUUUNCH" and I'll tell ya, it was hard to say no to this guy!
Ellio
He was so sweet. Every time I saw him he would say "Hi Colleen, how are you, everything okay?" And he was a badass snorkel guide!!
LARRY
Aka Chef master Larry. I do not know how on earth he was whipping up these fabulous extravagant dinners in that tiny kitchen... but his cooking was one of the best parts of this whole experience.
Equipped with fishing rods and spear guns we were able to catch Yellow Snapper fish and even a Barracuda! Hand them to Larry and BAM a few hours later we were devouring the most delicious fresh fish meals ever. He even made ceviche out of this Conch that Shaq captured ..
The crew was great and so were my fellow passengers. There were people from Canada, Australia, England, Holland, Utah, California, Ireland, and Illinois (just like me!). Some were solo travelers, best friends, med students and couples. We had SO many laughs.
DAY 1
Departing from Caye Caulker with a fully charged GoPro's and sunscreen head to toe we were ready to go! The boat had plenty of space for everyone to lounge and chill out before our first destination
Our first stop was this 'island' ..
I'm not really sure you can classify the above as an island. Some days it is covered by water, other days it is visible. We hopped in the water to snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef, the worlds second largest reef which lies right next to this island! Half of the group got to see and swim with manatees... I was not so lucky. sigh.
We cruised around all day until we made it to Rendezvous Caye. Our own private little island for the night. Looks dreamy don't it?
Here we took instructions from Shaq on how to put together our tents. I cannot remember the last time I pitched a tent but bring it on!
Watching the sunset on Rendezvous Caye was one of my favorite moments. It was so peaceful, so quite, and so beautiful. Here it started to sink in.. I was on a beautiful remote island in fabulous Belize surrounded by people I had just met yet already felt like friends. Out traveling the world as I had always dreamed. I'm a lucky gal!
As the sun set Chef Larry whipped up another dose of deliciousness and once again Shaq appeared shouting "RUUUMM PUUUUNCHHH" After dinner Captain Jacob said "I have a game we can all play, start stretching" .. stretching? hmm.. okay! He set a cardboard box on the ground and had us circle around it. The box was about a foot tall. Each person was to take a turn bending over to pick up the box with their teeth! The catch: you were not allowed to let your knees touch the ground. If you were able to pick up the box you had to tear off a piece, making the box shorter and shorter, proving more challenging for the next person to reach. It was too funny watching everyone try and maneuver themselves down to get this box. Turns out Larry was basically a professional at this!! It was a close call but the winner was Heather from Canada who deemed her reward a trust fall HAHAHA. Turned out to be absolutely hysterical.
DAY 2
We cruised and snorkeled all day. Raggamuffin took us to some amazing snorkel spots! The crew was so knowledgeable and these spots seemed to be in the middle of know where. Made us feel like we were the only people in the whole ocean.
As the sun starts to fade we pull up to Ragga Caye, our home for the night.
On Ragga Caye we slept in little bungalows above the water. We had one last magnificent dinner from Larry and spent the entire night laughing hysterically over a series of games organized by Miranda and Paula. Two best friends from Canada. They split us into 4 teams, had us pick a team name and earn points based on each activity.
We had to come up with a rap about Raggamuffin, do the limbo, give a sales pitch on what each team felt was the most important item on the boat .. obviously cups won. I mean.. if we didn't have cups how would we drink the rum punch?!? The girls had us do this story game where one person reads the story to themselves, then acts it out to the next person, who acts it out to the next person and so on and so forth. The final person has to write down what they thought the story was and read it out loud. We were in tears laughing at the outcomes of this telephone charades story game.
Tallied up the scores and we had a tie game! My team captain Shaq would not stand for a tie with our opponent.
Tie breaker time.
The groups voted for a lip sync battle (over a dance off which was my personal choice). Shaq had won the limbo for us, Adam had done the sales pitch, Lisa was MVP of the story game, it was my turn to step to the plate. I did a lip sync of Celine Dion's 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now" --> mostly in honor of my BFF Marta back home, its her favorite karaoke song! I made up some weird dance moves to it on the spot and it was a hit, we won!
Shout out to the Canadian girls for making the last night hysterical and so memorable!
DAY 3
I somehow managed to get up for the sunrise on Ragga Caye and .. YESSS
It's safe to say everyone was bummed it was our last day. Our time had gone by so fast, we felt like we were just getting started! We took the boat out for one more spin, had one final Chef Larry meal and said our goodbyes.
I could not recommend this experience enough. Shout out to Raggamuffin for an unforgettable experience!! If you ever find yourself in Caye Caulker Belize make sure to book one of their tours! They have day trips as well.
All in all the people were my favorite part of the trip. The crew and the other passengers. We had SO much fun. I love all the new friends I have!!
Belize was honestly beautiful and a great follow up to my Mexico destinations of Tulum and Isle Holbox!
Feel free to send me a message in the below contact box! What was your favorite part of this post? I would love to hear from you!
